NextEngine 3D

It's been too long since I've posted. Busy, busy, busy...

But now I have a specific question of the community: Has anybody used a NextEngine 3D to good effect? I know Scott Moore took one to Cyrpus. Scott, any further reactions?

I'm speaking with colleagues about getting funding for one but don't want to waste money/time if the machine is no good, too cumbersome, otherwise not useful.

Thanks in advance.

We did take one to Cyprus last summer to use on PKAP. I think it worked well, but we had 2 minor issues: 1) not enough memory on the laptop we used it with - it kept hanging up when we put the scans together - so we had to wait until we got back to the States to work on them; and 2) we, meaning me, should have practiced more with it before we took it into the field, but we got it right before our season started. They have updated the software and I think it holds a lot of potential, it is going back to Cyprus this summer for another trial.

Scott,

Thanks for the comment. Very useful. How much RAM do you recommend? More than 2gig?

I think we're moving ahead with our purchase so we'll share our thoughts as we get some experience with the thing.

I would suggest 4gb, and good gaming card, like a GeForce.
64bit Win will help - since Win32 won't use anything beyond 2GB/application.
